Interested in becoming an Aerological Observer? These data collection experts work at Upper Air Observing sites located throughout Canada.  They provide twice daily observations, 365 days per year. Each observation takes approximately 3 hours to perform.

Data is collected via an instrument package attached to a weather balloon collecting air temperature and humidity, air pressure, and wind speed/direction vertically through the atmosphere. During an ascent the instrument package transmits its data back to the Upper Air Observing site for processing. Once completed the data is provided to Environment Canada for use in weather analysis and forecasting.

The Aerological Observer Training Program consists of 3 weeks initial job training at the Environment Canada facility in Stony Plain, Alberta.
